Falls Prevention

In 2004/5 and 2007 The Cultural Sisters was commissioned by Creative Development Team (Walsall MBC) and Age UK to deliver creative projects that explored self image and challenged the stigma around ageing, raising awareness about the impacts of falling in the over 50’s age group.

2004/5
Using creative techniques we worked with people from several community groups: A craft group set up by Caldmore Housing for vulnerable women, an ‘extend’ exercise class at the Shree Ram Mandir Temple, elders at the Apna Ghar residential home and day centre and service users at Short Heath Day Centre. The project concluded with a celebratory event and fashion show in Walsall Town Centre.

2007
Following the success of the Fashion Show project in 2005, a second Falls Prevention project was developed for 2007. The Cultural Sisters worked collaboratively with a Bhangra Dancer and Photographer on the second phase, and with 6 groups of people from The African Caribbean Centre, the Apna Ghar, Shortheath and other Day Centres. The finale to this project was a celebratory event at Bescot Stadium.
